5 reasons why the Honda CR-V is the ideal family SUV

Honda’s largest SUV sold in Europe is a great option for families

For five generations the Honda CR-V has excelled at being a reliable and exceptionally practical family car.

And today, that’s only been improved, with this SUV offering a range of benefits that makes it stand above its rivals for families.

Here are five reasons why we reckon it’s the ideal family SUV.

Seven-seater available

Even if you don’t require seven seats at all times, a third row of seats can be exceptionally handy to have – if you need to carry extra passengers occasionally, for example.

While the CR-V doesn’t come with seven seats as standard, you can choose them on the mid-spec SE and SR models and with the turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine. That’s the first time a CR-V has been offered with seven seats. It’s an option box we reckon is worth ticking, as they can be just put back into the boot floor when they’re not in use.

Loads of standard safety kit

If you’re looking for a safe family SUV, there are few better options available than the Honda CR-V. The model scored an impressive five-star safety rating when it was safety tested by Euro NCAP in 2019 and comes with an impressive amount of kit as standard.

This is all part of the ‘Honda Sensing’ range of features, with pieces of driver assistance tech including adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist and autonomous emergency braking.

Impressive amount of rear space

Whether you’re looking for a family car and have teenagers or young children, you still want to make sure that you have plenty of room in the back seats.

And this Honda certainly won’t leave you disappointed as it comes with a generous amount of room in the second row, while access to the third row of seats is simple as well.

Large boot

A big boot is another must for a family SUV, and again, the Honda CR-V won’t leave you disappointed.

Measuring 561 litres with the rear seats up, or a huge 1,700 litres with the second row folded, there’s space for all kinds of eventualities. Another feature offered on the CR-V is a useful gesture-controlled electric boot, which can be opened by just waving your foot under the rear bumper. You just need to have the keys in your pocket for it to work.

All-wheel-drive versions on offer

Expect the unexpected is a great attitude to have for a family car, and whether it’s taking your kids to a muddy football pitch in the middle of nowhere or going for a weekend away walking, you never quite know where your car might take you.

So if you’re looking for something a bit more capable, you’ll be pleased to hear the CR-V is available with all-wheel-drive – giving you that extra ability. Granted, you won’t be going off-roading in this Honda, but that extra traction could come in exceptionally handy.

The Honda CR-V is on sale now, with prices starting from £27,270.
