5 things We Learned from the New Fast 8 Trailer

Last week, the highly anticipated Fast 8 trailer was released to the world. After seven blockbuster hits, it’s safe to say that Fast and Furious has a special place in all our hearts – but what can we expect from the film?

Villainous Dom

An integral part of the Fast and Furious story line is Dom’s commitment to his family. From the very first film, Dom has risked his own life for the people around him. But no more it seems.

In the fast 8 trailer, we see Vin Diesel’s Dom ram Dwayne Johnson’s character Hobbs off the road in an epic clash of cars, resulting in Hobbs’ vehicle being flipped. Now these have had a rocky relationship in the past, but it’s Charlize Theron’s voiceover that makes the trailer scene that bit more chilling and sinister.

“You know what I like about you Dom? You’re a genuine outlaw. But your family is about to go up against the only thing they can’t handle… you.”

She follows on to say: “Did you ever think you’d betray your family the way you did today?”

The fact Dom has betrayed his family is probably the biggest shock we can gather from the trailer. It is evident that his integrity has been jeopardised and it’s left us feeling a little confused – what has caused him to turn on his family? The answer is unclear, but I’m sure Theron’s Character, Cipher, has something to do with it.

An Addition to the Team

Over the course of the films, characters in the team have come and gone, the latest being the late Paul Walker. However, Fast 8 promises to deliver an unlikely addition to the team. Jason’s Statham’s character, Deckard Shaw, was the antagonist of Fast 7 – but it seems he’s set to become the newest addition to the family.

In the trailer, we see Hobbs and Shaw simultaneously escaping from what looks to be a maximum-security prison, after Johnson claims he will “beat” Statham “like a Cherokee Drum”.

Right before the characters can initiate into an old-school action brawl, Mr. Nobody interrupts them and states that they are to work together to capture Dominic Toretto.

So, yes, Jason Statham is the newest addition to the team. Will he double cross or prove to be a solid addition...? Only time will tell.

Snow Drifts and Gear Shifts

A high-octane chase across the ice seems to be a prominent feature within the film, as the team attempt to capture the rogue Dom. The scene itself looks to rival Pierce Brosnan’s iconic car chase across the ice, seen in Die Another Day, with more drifts, bullets, and explosions than ever before.

From the trailer, it’s clear that the scene will be eruptive with an abundance of armoured vehicles, tanks, snow mobiles and even a submarine revealed. This one is not to be missed.

What Cars Can We Expect to See?

Throughout the Fast and Furious franchise, we have seen a vast array of extravagant cars grace our screens. Fortunately for us, Fast 8 is set to top them all with an array of roaring sports cars fuelled up and racing through the streets of New York and Cuba.

Car types have recently been revealed, along with the characters who drive them.

Bentley Continental – Tyrese Gibson (Roman Pearce)

Yes, the Bentley Continental has made its way in to the hands of the Fast and Furious Team, or more precisely Roman Pearce (we all know how destructive he can be), so the life duration of the car within the film is uncertain.

Jaguar F-Type S – Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw)

Statham’s character is set to drive the Jaguar F-Type, a fitting ride for the critically acclaimed English actor, seeing as Jaguar was founded as an English brand. Fast, cool, and British – just like the man driving it.

1966 Corvette Stingray Coupe -  Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz)

A classic mod of an iconic car, Michelle is set to drive a hot-rod red 1966 Corvette Stingray. After Letty’s surprising revival in Fast 6, this again, seems like a decent fit for the character.

Mercedes AMG GT – Ludacris (Tej Parker)

This time round, Ludacris was provided with the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, a two-seat coupe released in 2015. Stylish and sporty, the metallic grey and black racing stripes give it a great portrayal.

Plymouth GTX – Vin Diesel (Dominic Toretto)

Going back to the basics, The Plymouth GTX has been a consistent feature of the Fast and Furious saga. Appearing in several movies, the classic is back again, acting as Dominic Toretto’s cruiser as he battles his ‘family’s’ fleet of sports cars (as seen in the trailer).

A Loot of Locations

Racing their way through Tokyo, Dubai and LA, there has been no shortage of scene diversity in the franchise. Again, Universal have pulled out all the stops with driving scenes over the icy surfaces of Iceland, through the blocks of New York and down the costal roads of Cuba.

The Fate of the Furious is set to be released on the 14th April 2017 (UK), and judging by the trailer, this isn’t one to be missed!
