Ferrari F40

A Sultan of Brunei-owned, RHD Ferrari F40 is up for sale

One of just seven right-hand drive models of the legendary supercar, made exclusively for the Sultan of Brunei, is on sale at a dealer in Ascot for £2 million.

An ultra-rare, right-hand-drive Ferrari F40 — owned by the Sultan of Brunei — has gone on sale in the UK for £2 million.

Regular production of the legendary supercar, which started in 1987 and ended in 1992, was limited to left-hand-drive models — but Italian design firm Pininfarina produced seven examples for the Sultan with the steering wheel positioned across the other side of the car.

One of these seven is now on sale at specialist Ferrari dealer Talacrest, based in Ascot, Berkshire with an estimated price of £2 million.

As well as being one of just a handful of right-hand-drive models, this particular car also features power windows — replacing the original wind-up units — as well as a seat from the F40LM race car and a unique headlining to allow room for taller drivers.

This example has covered 6,373 miles and was recently restored, with accompanying files suggesting around £115,000 worth of work carried out.

Derived from the 308 GTB, the F40 featured a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that developed 471bhp and 577Nm of torque. As a result, 0-60mph comes in 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 201mph, which at the time was a world production car record.

It was lauded for its unrivalled driving experience and incredible performance, often seen as a race car for the road. Significantly, it was also the final car to be approved by Enzo Ferrari before his death in 1988. Just 1,311 examples were produced.
