Alfa Romeo Giulietta now more efficient

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback has had its engine line-up updated with virtually all units gaining improved fuel economy and CO2 output figures.

All engines, from the entry-level 118bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol to the 237bhp 1.75-litre petrol used for the Quadrifoglio Verde version, are now compliant with Euro6 emissions regulations. The only engine unchanged from before is the recently-introduced 148bhp 2.0-litre JTDM-2 turbodiesel, which is already Euro6 compliant.

The 1.6-litre JTDM-2 diesel has had its output increased from 104bhp to 118bhp, reducing the 0-62mph sprint time by 1.3 seconds to 10 in total. At the same time, its CO2 output is also reduced from 104g/km to 99g/km. This, therefore, becomes the first engine in the Giulietta range to offer free Vehicle Excise Duty. The 1.6 diesel’s combined fuel economy is also improved from 74.3mpg to 70.6mpg.

For all specifications using the 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo petrol, CO2 emissions are reduced by 4g/km. The Quadrifoglio Verde edition has had its CO2 output reduced by 5g/km to 157g/km in total.

Even with all of these engine improvements, pricing for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta range remains unchanged. That means the hatchback still currently starts from £18,450.
