Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV officially revealed

The much talked about new Stelvio SUV from Alfa Romeo has finally been given its official reveal at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Images and details of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio have been released, and the pictures show the Stelvio in its range-topping Quadrifoglio form.

Upon first viewing, it becomes immediately obvious that the Stelvio’s design has taken heavy inspiration from the new Alfa Romeo Giulia saloon, which has just arrived in the UK.

One of the smallest cars to enter the luxury compact crossover market, the Stelvio will take on the likes of the Porsche Macan, Jaguar F-PACE and Mercedes GLC-Class.

All-wheel drive only

The Stelvio will come as standard with all-wheel drive powertrains, which will usually send torque to the rear wheels in normal conditions, but can distribute this evenly to the front and rear wheels when appropriate.

Like with the Giulia in the UK, an eight-speed automatic gearbox will also be standard for the Stelvio. A drive mode selector will also be onboard with Dynamic, Natural Advanced Efficiency and Race models available.

The Quadrifoglio model features several drive-enhancing modifications such as carbon-ceramic brakes, sportier suspension components and adjustable dampers.

Engines and pricing for the Stelvio

Engines for the standard Stelvio range are set to include a 2.0-litre petrol unit with 276bhp, although the 2.2-litre diesels and 2.0-litre petrol engines featured in the Giulia range are also rumoured to be included in the Stelvio SUV’s line-up.

As for the Stelvio Quadrifoglio, it uses a 2.9-litre bi-turbo V6 petrol engine which boasts 503bhp. It’s the same unit used by the M3-rivalling Giulia Quadrifoglio.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio will reportedly go on sale during summer 2017 and prices are expected to start from roughly £40,000 and climb up to around £65,000 for the Quadrifoglio model.
