Alfa Romeo to reintroduce 8C and GTV names to range

Both the sports car and coupe will be brought back to the Alfa Romeo line-up in the next five years, says parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Two of Alfa Romeo’s most recognisable models will be making a return in the next five years, according to parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Both the 8C sports car and GTV sports coupe will be coming back by 2022 and both will utilise electric power alongside a combustion engine.

The 8C will be Alfa’s flagship model and will come with a carbon fibre monocoque chassis, a mid-mounted twin-turbo engine car paired to an electric power setup to help produce upwards of 700bhp and a 0-60mph time under three seconds.

Originally released in 2007, the 8C was discontinued in 2010 and was fitted with a front mounted V8 engine, coming in the shape of both a coupe and spider. It was praised for its excellent looks and was the inspiration for the current 4C.

As for the GTV, Alfa says that the upcoming coupe will come with a 600bhp powertrain with all-wheel drive, 50/50 weight distribution and seating for four, with the design likely to draw inspiration from the Giulia. The Italian brand hasn’t said whether the GTV will come with a less powerful option, in the same way that the range-topping Giulia Quadrifoglio is followed up by a less potent Veloce version.

These two are the headline additions Alfa will make to its range in the coming years, with FCA also confirming the addition of long-wheelbase versions of the Giulia and Stelvio, and two new SUVs. In all, seven models will be added by 2022 – six of which will be electrified.
