All-electric Audi Q4 e-tron concept revealed at Geneva Motor Show

The Q4 e-tron follows the pattern set by the 2018 e-tron, and will arrive in showrooms by 2020

Audi has revealed its latest electric concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show – the Q4 e-tron.

The Q4 e-tron is set to slot in the range underneath the larger e-tron, which was revealed in camouflaged form at last year’s Geneva Motor Show.

The Q4 takes advantage of the Volkswagen Group’s dedicated MEB platform, which is going to underpin many of the Group’s upcoming electric models. Two electric motors power the concept, which produces 302bhp and is able to accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.1 seconds and offers an electronically-limited top speed of 111mph. The large 82kWh battery also allows for an electric range of 279 miles.

The production-ready Q4 e-tron is set to be introduced by the end of 2020, and follows on from the e-tron SUV, which is already on sale, the e-tron GT, e-tron Sportback and the China-only Q2L e-tron.

Audi’s trademark Singleframe grille is used, while the concept also features 22-inch alloy wheels and matrix LED headlights, with a look closely mimicking that of the firm’s larger e-tron.

A clever ‘Solar Sky’ paint finish changes colour depending on angle, and by reflecting short waves of sunlight, it helps to avoid too much heat building on the exterior and interior – subsequently increasing range by occupants not having to turn their air-conditioning on full blast to bring the temperature down.

Audi promises a sporty and involving driving experience from the model, with the battery located between the axles to provide a similar centre of gravity to a traditional saloon, rather than a high-riding crossover.

The German manufacturer has high ambitions for its electric offerings, with the firm planning to have 12 EVs on sale by 2025 – with a third of its sales to be made up by electrified models.
