The all-new Kia Ceed has been revealed, with the mid-size hatchback gaining a fresh look, a new diesel engine and autonomous technology.

You may notice a tweak to the name, with the apostrophe dropped from Cee’d for the third-generation — now simply becoming Ceed. It also brings a new look to the nameplate, with a design firmly in-line with Kia’s current design language.

As for tech, the hatchback gains Lane Following Assist autonomous technology which works with the cruise control to change lanes without driver input, as well as reading road markings to know when to maintain its current position. It operates at speeds of up to 81mph.

Other features include blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic collision warning, parking assist and pedestrian detection. Every Ceed will also be fitted with stability management as standard.

Under the bonnet, there’s an updated version of Kia’s existing 1.0-litre petrol engine, here producing either 99bhp or 118bhp.  There's also a 1.4-litre option, which replaces the previous 1.6-litre engine — and develops four per cent more power despite a lower displacement.

Those looking for diesel can choose the brand-new 1.6-litre unit which is “designed to go beyond the stricter limits laid down by the latest Euro 6d emissions standard”. It’ll be available with either 113bhp or 136bhp.

All engines are available with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.4-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel can be paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The cabin is finished with soft-touch materials and a choice of cloth, synthetic or genuine leather interior, while metallic or satin chrome trim is also an option. Customers can opt for a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear stick if they so choose.

As for infotainment, a 5.0-inch or 7.0-inch touchscreen system is available on lower trim levels while higher-end models receive an 8.0-inch system with navigation. Buyers can also opt for a JBL sound system.

Pricing and full UK specifications for the new Kia Ceed have yet to be revealed, but production will begin mid-2018 with delivered expected later in the year.
