All-new Ford Galaxy MPV revealed

The all-new Ford Galaxy MPV has been unveiled, boasting ‘luxurious travel for seven’ and a host of new features, including third row seating which can be raised or lowered with the push of a button.

From the outside the Galaxy can be recognised by its slim-line headlamps and new front grille, as well as a large glazed area and retractable panoramic roof.

But, it’s inside where engineers have really focussed their attention, improving space and practicality for all seven passengers. There’s up to 40mm more headroom and getting in and out has been made easier for rear occupants thanks to middle row seats which tilt and slide in one operation.

A hands-free rear hatchback will also be offered, allowing you to open the boot by waving your foot under the rear bumper when your hands are full.

The driver will be served by a 10-inch digital screen, replacing the convention instruments and offering personalised 3D graphics for a more interactive experience.

A wide range of engines will be offered, with 118bhp, 147bhp and 178bhp from the 2.0-litre TDCi diesel, as well as 158 or 237bhp from 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engines. A new 2.0-litre TDCi Bi-turbo diesel engine will also be introduced with 207bhp.

The Galaxy has always offered a “car-like” driving experience, and this looks set to continue, thanks to an advanced suspension set-up and the option of Continuous Control Damping offering ‘comfort’, ‘normal’ and ‘sport’ modes.

Safety equipment gets a boost too, with second-row seat side airbags for the first time. Ford’s MyKey tech will also enable owners to programme a key to limit the top speed and various other vehicle functions when it’s used to drive the car. Like the Ford S-MAX, it will also be available with Ford’s Intelligent Speed Limiter, automatically detecting the speed limit and adjusting the car’s throttle.
