All-new Lexus RX unveiled at New York

The 2015 fourth-generation Lexus RX SUV has made its first public appearance at the New York Motor Show. Fresh details have also been released, including confirmation that the new RX will go on sale in Britain in late 2015.

The RX is Lexus’s best-selling model, and the new model aims to improve on its success by offering a more practical and luxurious ownership experience.

Compared to its predecessor, the new RX is taller, longer and wider and has a longer wheelbase. All of this results in more cabin space for passengers. Extra equipment will feature inside the RX, with standard features including a large head-up display and a 12.3-inch infotainment monitor.

Exterior design changes include new 20-inch alloy wheels and a new grille, which is similar to that found on Lexus’s NX crossover. In the range-topping F-Sport trim, the new RX will get a new mesh for the grille and front bumper alongside some other unique design features.

The F-Sport version will also feature adaptive variable suspension and active stabiliser system, which helps to minimise body roll through corners. All specifications of the new RX will utilise four-wheel drive.

Engines for the new RX will include a 3.5-litre V6 petrol unit, mated to an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission. The current RX’s hybrid powertrain, that combines the same V6 engine with an electric motor, will be carried over to the new model. These two powertrains both have an estimated output of 300bhp.

Pricing and specifications for the new Lexus RX in Britain will be announced closer to its launch time. It’s likely that the new generation model will start at a considerably higher price than the current RX, which starts from £44,495.
