The cloud-based voice service is available to use in the MY19 Leon and Ateca models via Seat’s Android Media Control app

Seat has announced customers will now be able to use Amazon’s Alexa in its vehicles via the Seat Media Control application.

Only available to Android smartphone users, the application allows Seat drivers to use the voice command assistant to access information, play music, control satellite navigation or manage personal schedules.

This is a first for the UK car market, with Seat already offering the service in Europe and other manufacturers have introduced it in North America. It is available to use on the MY19 Ateca and Leon with touchscreen infotainment systems fitted.

Luca de Meo, Seat president, said: “As functionality and connectivity levels increase, we have to find a balance between usability and safety. Introducing Amazon Alexa helps us find that balance.

“With just a tap of the steering wheel, customers will be able to ask Alexa for music, points of interest and much more without taking eyes off the road.”

The service was released in 2014 with the Amazon Alexa smart home device and has access to more than 45,000 skills that have been developed in that time.
