Aston Martin DBX to enter production in 2019

Aston Martin has revealed new images of its upcoming DBX crossover, following the announcement that the manufacturer has officially taken over the St Athan production facility in south Wales. Production is now scheduled to begin from 2019 and we’ve been given our best look yet at Aston’s DBX in near-production form.

Last year, Aston Martin announced it would be getting a second production plant based in St Athan, Wales, by repurposing military hangars owned by the Ministry of Defence. These buildings have now been officially taken over by Aston Martin and recently published images of the DBX concept show the car inside one of the hangars.

With the plant’s takeover complete, plans for the £200 million facility can now be put together properly. Production of the DBX crossover is scheduled from 2019 onwards and this plant will run alongside facilities at Aston Martin’s HQ in Gaydon. 750 jobs are set to be created by the new plant in south Wales.

The DBX will be Aston Martin’s first foray into the lucrative luxury crossover segment and it will take on the likes of the Bentley Bentayga, Maserati Levante and Porschye Cayenne.

While the powertrain in the DBX concept utilises electric motors for each wheel, the production version is expected to use a more conventional engine instead. However, a hybrid or even a full-electric derivative could realistically join the DBX’s line-up at some point.
