Aston Martin presents Vanquish Zagato concept

Aston Martin and the Italian design house Zagato have collaborated to create a new concept car called the Vanquish Zagato.

Images and details of the stunning sports car have been released ahead of the concept’s public debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, held at Lake Como in Italy tomorrow.

This is the fifth car produced by the Aston Martin and Zagato partnership. The two companies’ first collaboration occurred back in 1960 with the iconic DB4 GT Zagato. The most recent car made from this partnership until now was the V12 Vantage Zagato from 2011.

Unique design features

The new creation from the two brands is based on the latest Aston Martin Vanquish supercar and introduces some unique design cues.

Developed and engineered at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, the Vanquish Zagato is a one-off model entirely shaped from carbon fibre. Design highlights include a double-bubble roof, the round tail light reflectors built into the grille, a retractable spoiler, ‘bladed’ LED taillights and the four exhausts which protrude through carbon fibre sills.

Some design changes are reminiscent of some of the rarer or upcoming cars from Aston Martin, like the One-77, CC-100 or DB11, while other features are common trademarks from the Zagato design house.

Inside, passengers of the Zagato concept are surrounded by carbon fibre, anodised bronze and aniline leather.

The Vanquish Zagato also has a more powerful engine than a regular Vanquish. The 5.9-litre V12 has been tweaked to deliver 591bhp, instead of the standard 568bhp output. The adaptive dampers have also been re-tuned to offer sharper handling.

While there’s no indication that the Vanquish Zagato will ever reach production, the changes made for it do indicate what Aston Martin could do should they decide to launch more hardcore derivatives of its latest supercar.
