Aston Martin Red Bull 900bhp hypercar: Newey's road racer unveiled

A new Aston Martin hypercar created in partnership with Red Bull has been revealed after much speculation. It’s called the AM-RB 001 and it’s designed to be immensely quick both on the road and on the track.

There will actually be two versions of the AM-RB 001; one designed for both road and track use and another extreme track-only version. The latter is expected to have a more sophisticated aero kit and could set lap times as quick as a Formula 1 car or LMP1 Le Mans race car.

Formula 1-rivalling performance

The mid-mounted engine is a V12 naturally aspirated petrol unit that reportedly produces around 900bhp. The AM-RB 001 also weights just 900kg, which is more than 100kg less than a current Mazda MX-5. Online reports suggest the zero to 62mph sprint time for the AM-RB 001 will be just a little over two seconds and the top speed is over 200mph.

The AM-RB 001 project has been overseen by Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s chief creative officer and Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer and experienced Formula 1 car designer.

The President and CEO of Aston Martin, Dr Andy Palmer, said the AM-RB 001 project brought together “the very best of road and race car thinking.”

Aston Martin says between 99 and 150 examples of the AM-RB 001 will be built, including any remaining prototypes and 25 track-only versions. First deliveries to customers will commence in 2018. Expect the AM-RB 001 to be bought only by the richest of drivers as the price tag is set to be close to £2 million.
