The track-only model is quoted to have performance to match modern F1 cars and will be built from 2020 onwards.

Aston Martin has unveiled drawings of its track-orientated version of the Valkyrie hypercar – the AMR Pro.

The model is due to be built in 2020, with only 25 units planned for production and as with many limited-run hypercars, all of those have been sold already.

With the help of technical partners Red Bull Advanced Technologies and AF Racing, the major changes to the Valkyrie is the exterior design – as the bodywork is more track-focused and more aerodynamically efficient. With larger front and rear wing elements, it will create much more downforce and suited for cornering on circuits.

Under the skin of the AMR Pro is the same 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 and electric recovery system found in the road-going version – but Aston Martin says the power and torque have been increased to produce more racing car-like performance.

Fitted with F1-style carbon brakes that are suited to track racing and 18-inch wheels surrounded by Michelin racing tyres, Aston Martin also took out all the road-going mod-cons, such as the infotainment system and heating system, as it aims to make the most extreme track car it has built.

Aston Martin claims that this car will be able to lap circuits at a similar speed to current Formula 1 cars and says it could have a top speed close to 250mph.

Red Bull Technology’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey said: “While it is endowed with extraordinary performance, it has always been vitally important to me that the Valkyrie functions well as a true road car, and that naturally comes with some constraints.

“However, with the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro we have the freedom to create an extreme evolution that makes no such concessions. Every aspect of the AMR Pro – aerodynamics, chassis, powertrain and weight – has been optimised to significantly extend the performance envelope. It offers a level of track performance significantly beyond any previous two seat closed roof car.”

Aston Martin president and CEO, Dr Andy Palmer added: “The road car will set new benchmarks for performance, engineering and technology - a hypercar in the truest sense - and with the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro those limits will be pushed further still.

“It’s a remarkable project. One that’s propelling Aston Martin and 25 of our most passionate customers into a new and extraordinary realm.”
