Audi sets global sales record for November

Huge demand for the brand’s cars in China and North America helped to see this sales spike

Audi has announced that it had its most successful November for worldwide registrations last month.

Sales for the German brand’s premium models rose by 23.1 per cent globally to 163,350 units, with increases in deliveries of 17.3 and 16.8 per cent in North America and China respectively helping Audi to set this record-breaking figure.

While a 33 per cent year-on-year rise of registrations in Europe might seem impressive, it’s worth noting that Audi was hit towards the end of last year by a change in emissions regulations – known as WLTP.

Audi says significant increases in demand for models such as the A6, Q3 and Q8 are helping to boost sales, while China-only cars such as the Q2 L e-tron and A6 L (the ‘L’ standing for long-wheelbase) have also helped boost sales, too.

Hildegard Wortmann, head of sales and marketing at Audi AG, said: “North America has been reaping the benefits of the full availability of the new Audi Q3 for the past few months; the two electric models, the Audi e-tron and Audi Q2 L e-tron, as well as the Audi Q8 bolstered our portfolio in November in China.

“Despite the increasingly difficult environment, we therefore still expect our deliveries to customers to perform robustly and to see slight growth for 2019 as a whole.”

Next year sees the introduction of the all-new A3, as well as more affordable versions of the e-tron EV and the new e-tron Sportback – all of which should help to bring more growth for Audi.
