Begone, Satan! Hennessey Exorcist is the 1,000bhp Camaro from Hell

Dodge is on the cusp of unveiling its long-awaited Demon next week, but before the Challenger-based drag special is even released, here comes a 1,000bhp Camaro sent to fight hellfire with hellfire.

Brought to you by Hennessey, the Texan tuners behind the Venom GT - aka the world’s fastest car - it’s called the Exorcist, so named because it’s one giant F-you to the upcoming Demon.

It’s based on the already-mental Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, albeit retrofitted with the same 6.2-litre supercharged V8 LT4 engine that’s used in the Corvette Z06.

Hennessey has bolted on a larger high-flow supercharger and a bigger intercooler system that pumps out 14psi worth of boost, while the engine gets ported cylinder heads, a more aggressive camshaft and stainless steel headers.

Add a quick ECU flash tune and a freer-flowing induction system and the LT4, which in its stock tune produces a mighty 640bhp, will go all the way up to the quadruple figures.

That’s not all. You see, because the Dodge Demon is intended to be a super-powerful drag special, fitted with radial drag tyres and a special launch control system, the Exorcist gets much of the same kit.

For an extra £7,000 or so the optional Drag Pack adds 20-inch wheels and sticky Nitto drag radial tyres, plus an upgrade to the driveshaft along with a floor jack and a tool kit thrown in for free.

There’s no performance specs just yet, but you can expect it to be seriously fast. But that’s not all, as Hennessey claims that the Exorcist will be much more than just a straight-line drag machine.

John Hennessey, the tuner’s founder, said: “The Exorcist is not just a quarter-mile racer. It’s a well-rounded super muscle car that is just as happy on a road course as it is on the dragstrip and street. Needless to say, this will leave the competition’s heads spinning.”

The Hennessey Exorcist pack starts from £44,055 on top of the price of a donor Camaro ZL1, while you can alternatively buy one ready-made for approximately £93,000 before options.
