Bentley introduces next-generation Continental GT3

The latest version of the grand tourer has been turned into a full-blown racing car, which will compete in GT racing series around the world

Bentley has revealed its latest Continental GT race car.

Called the Continental GT3, it will replace the current model that was raced between 2013 and this year in multiple GT racing series.

Built in partnership with Cumbria-based motorsport technical company M-Sport, the GT3 keeps most of the base car’s aluminium structure but the overall weight of the car is reduced to less than 1,300kg. The weight is evenly distributed to provide optimum balance.

The standard W12 engine is replaced with a race-proven, twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces upwards of 550bhp when unrestricted and is paired with a new exhaust system.

Although the exterior design looks vastly similar to the road car, all the parts have been designed in a wind tunnel to ensure the body provides the most downforce possible.

Brian Gush, Bentley’s director of motorsport, said: “After four years of success with our Continental GT3, we’re excited to reveal our second-generation car. The new car leaves no area or system untouched in the search for even better performance, and the early test results are promising.

“The new Continental GT road car has proved to be a great starting point for the development of a new racer, and the engineering development work is true to Bentley’s impeccable standards.”

Customers will be able to buy this for racing in June 2018 as the model is still going through testing, and Bentley will be racing the model in the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup Series.
