Research from Jeep also found the average motorist drives just 26 miles per day

A study has found the best places in the UK for drivers of plug-in vehicles.

Analysis of the latest government data by Jeep found that Coventry was the best place for drivers of electrified cars in mainland Britain, with the city said to have one charger per 2.3 registered plug-in car owners.

But when it came to the country as a whole, it was the Outer Hebrides that’s interestingly the best place for EV owners with one charger for every 2.13 cars registered there. Following this were Fermanagh and Omagh (Northern Ireland), where there are 2.5 cars per charger and Wandsworth in London with 2.8.

A study of 2,000 motorists also found that the average motorists travels just 26 miles per day, with 76 per cent saying that there should be greater investment in on-street electric car charging for motorists that aren’t able to plug in their vehicles at home.

Damien Dally, Jeep country manager, said: “The UK’s charging infrastructure is improving every day and it’s great to see charging devices popping up across the country.

“Sales of plug-in hybrids are up by almost 90 per cent this year as motorists look for a more sustainable way of driving around. “With 71 per cent of petrol, diesel and hybrid drivers covering fewer than 30 miles per day on average, a plug-in hybrid would give them the benefit of zero emission driving while providing the comfort of a petrol engine to fall back on for longer journeys as well."

Jeep has recently introduced its first plug-in hybrid model with the Renegade 4xe. It offers permanent four-wheel-drive and genuine off-roading ability, while also boasts a 26-mile electric range. It’s on sale now, with prices starting from £32,600.
