BMW drivers found most likely to break the speed limit

BMW drivers have been found to be the most likely to speed on UK roads.

Recent data analysis has found that drivers of BMW cars are the most likely road users in Britain to break the speed limit.

Data on more than 300,000 drivers was studied by the car insurance company Admiral, which reviewed the highest examples of speeding for each make and model.

In the top 10 per cent of highest speeders, BMW models appear six times which is more than any other brand. Drivers of Audi cars stood out almost as much for speeding offences too, with four models from the brand also appearing in the top 10 per cent.

One-quarter of BMW 420d and M135i drivers were identified as being likely to break the speed limit, along with a quarter of Audi Q5 drivers. 31 per cent of Bentley Continental drivers were also found to have been caught speeding.

Skoda drivers much better behaved

In contrast to BMW owners, the research also reveals that Skoda drivers are the least likely to break the speed limit. Cars from the Czech brand appeared most often in the bottom ten per cent of for speeding offences.

It was also found that the drivers who are the least likely to speed are driving one of three particular Skodas – either the Citigo, Fabia or Superb.

Justin Beddows from Admiral commented: “There’s definitely a trend in owners of more affordable cars being less likely to break the speed limit.

“The data doesn’t seek to tarnish certain drivers with the same brush, but rather show that these trends do exist.”
