BMW has revealed a new limited edition of the BMW M4 coupe made to celebrate the manufacturer’s recent title victory in the DTM championship, Germany’s main touring car series.
This version of the M4, called the DTM Champion Edition, is limited to just 200 examples and costs £134,136. Compared to a regular M4, this version is more powerful, lighter, quicker and features an array of features to transform this into a properly track-focused car.
Output from the 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine is increased by 68bhp compared to standard meaning the total is now at 492bhp. There’s also 50Nm extra of torque to give the M4 DTM as much as 600Nm in total.
The 0-62mph sprint time is reduced from 4.1 to 3.8 seconds and the limited top speed is increased from 155mph to 190mph. Official efficiency and emission figures are hardly different compared to other versions of the M4. The official combined fuel economy for the M4 DTM is recorded at 33.2mpg and CO2 emissions are at 199g/km.
To help turn the M4 DTM into more of a track beast, the coupe features more lightweight construction. Many panels, such as the bonnet, roof and rear diffuser, are all made from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic.
It also features lightweight alloy wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres for optimum grip on road and track, plus carbon-ceramic brakes and adjustable three-way coilover suspension.
Water injection technology, which helps cool the engine’s combustion chambers and features in the M4 GTS, is also found on the M4 DTM Champion Edition.
The interior has a clear track car focus as evidenced by the M Carbon bucket seats and white rollover bar. There’s still plenty of luxuries to be found within though, including Alcantara and leather trim detailing, sat-nav, air conditioning and parking sensors.
