BMW unveils Concept i4 previewing new electric saloon

The Tesla Model 3 rival promises an electric range of 373.

BMW has unveiled a concept car showcasing what the brands first electric saloon car will look like.

With the i4 set to rival the lucrative Tesla Model 3, it could become a big-seller for the firm, pushing buyers away from more conventional 3 Series and 4 Series models.

While this concept shows plenty of design details that are not likely to feature on the production model namely the futuristic door mirrors cues like the imposing front grille are likely to appear on next years production model. The four-door Gran Coupe body styling also aims to closely resemble that of the upcoming 4 Series.

BMW promises the i4 will deliver a range of 373 miles longer than that of the Tesla along with a punchy powertrain producing 523bhp. This means a 0-60mph time of less than four seconds is promised.

As for the inside, the Concept i4 has a minimalist cabin, which displays few physical buttons, instead featuring a large centre console and a huge curved central touchscreen. The latter will feature on the production car.

The showroom-ready i4 will likely be unveiled before the end of the year ahead of arriving in showrooms in 2021. Further variants of the i4 are likely to go on sale, too, including less powerful and more affordable derivatives.
