Bold new Nissan Micra unveiled, due to go on sale next March

The long-awaited new Nissan Micra has finally been unveiled, with bold and funky new looks, plus high-tech kit and frugal new engine options.

Nissan has unveiled the new fifth-generation Micra supermini at the Paris Motor Show, which is due to go on sale in the UK next March.

Compared against the previous Micra, it’s longer, lower and wider with a more contemporary appearance and is aiming to rival the likes of the Ford Fiesta and the Volkswagen Polo.

In terms of looks, Nissan has kept it close to the Sway Concept which was unveiled in Geneva last year, with the manufacturer’s signature V-shaped grille and sharp character lines.

Bold new looks, lots more kit

It certainly looks more appealing than the previous Micra, and Nissan says that buyers can choose between a total of 125 different personalisation options for both the interior and exterior.

The car’s larger size means that there’s a lot more room inside too, while kit includes a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a six-speaker Bose sound system and sat-nav.

Nissan has also kitted the new Micra out with a full range of safety equipment, including blind spot warning and lane departure systems, plus an around-view monitor and automatic high beam assist.

Choice of three downsized engines

From launch, the Micra will be available with a choice of either a 0.9-litre turbocharged petrol engine or a large 1.5-litre diesel, both of which produce 89bhp.

Nissan also says that the range will be bolstered with the addition of a 72bhp 1.0-litre petrol, and says that all engine options offer efficient but agile performance.

Full specification and pricing information for the new Nissan Micra have yet to be announced, but it’s expected that more will be known closer to when the car goes on sale in March 2017.
