British Mustang buyers face 12-month waiting list

British buyers interested in the new Ford Mustang now face waiting times of up to a year for delivery thanks to unprecedented demand, according to a Ford official.

The spokesman confirmed to Auto Express that fans of the new model will have to be patient, possibly having to wait until mid-2016 to get their hands on one, saying: “Order one now and you will have to wait 12 months”.

Bound for Britain in right-hand drive format for the first time in its 50-year history, the world’s most popular muscle car has already proven a hit with those looking for a piece of high-performance Americana.

Back in March, Ford reported that it had experienced an unprecedented amount of interest from prospective buyers on its online configurator, with over a million visitors using it in the first month alone.

With 1,800 Mustangs expected to be sold in the UK this year and first deliveries due to begin this autumn, Ford will be forced to leave some buyers waiting while the car’s built in its Michigan factory.

Priced from £28,995, the new 2015 Ford Mustang offers British buyers a whole lot of power for relatively little cost, with a choice of two high-performance engines and a range of modern kit.

Buyers can choose between a 310bhp 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, though the biggest-seller is expected to be the 412bhp 5.0-litre V8, which is priced from £32,995.

Standard kit across the new Mustang range includes 19-inch alloys and automatic xenon headlights in addition to performance touches like racing-spec brakes and a rear diffuser.

Dual-zone climate control is also included as standard, alongside a nine-speaker sound system and Ford’s SYNC 2 infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen and voice-activated controls.
