In terms of British car manufacturing, Jaguar is one of the top names and has continued to be synonymous with premium results and attractive products.

Based in the West Midlands since it was formed in 1935, Jaguar had a rocky 20th Century in terms of financial stability, before finding true success in the modern era.

It has made some of the world’s most iconic cars, including what is arguably the prettiest car ever built – the E-Type.

Now part of Jaguar Land Rover, it continues to convey strong British design and even holds a royal warrant to produce for the Royal Family – high standing indeed.

Who owns Jaguar?

Jaguar is currently owned by Indian company Tata Motors and is paired with Land Rover. The pair were joined together in 2013 having been owned by Tata since 2008 – who bought Jaguar from Ford Motor Company.

The brand has been owned by British Motor Holdings and British Leyland in its history, as well as being an independent brand twice since its founding.

Where are Jaguars made?

Jaguar shares its factories with Land Rover, and has three sites around the world where the cars are built – Castle Bromwich and Solihull in the West Midlands, and Chengdu, China. All the engines are built in Wolverhampton and Chengdu, whilst the engineering, research and development sites are in the Warwickshire town of Gaydon, and Coventry.

Jaguar 2017 models

In its line-up Jaguar currently has six models – with a seventh to follow in 2018 called the I-PACE, an all-electric SUV. Here we’ll take a look at the cars currently available to customers…

XE

The smallest model on offer in the Jaguar range, although it is still one of the largest in its class. The sporty saloon comes with a variety of either Ingenium engines – available in diesel or petrol guises – or a 374bhp V6 petrol engine fitted to the top spec S model. Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations has also created the Project 8 – a 592bhp monster that recently set the Nürburgring four-door lap record.

XF

Originally launched in 2007, the second generation came to the market in 2015 with a modernised look and a sleeker interior. Available in mid-size saloon or sportbrake bodies, the XF goes up against some of the top saloons on the market, like the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6. It also has a long wheelbase option – although that is built for the Chinese market only.

XJ

The largest saloon in the line-up and the brand’s most luxurious model. Coming with standard and long wheelbase options, the current XJ is the most expensive car Jaguar builds and with that you get leather upholstery, multi-functional seats and even media screens and tables in the rear with top-end long wheelbase options. More of a limo than anything else, it still has savage performance in the guise of the XJR575, which was recently unveiled.

E-PACE

This is the brand’s newest model and the smallest SUV it currently offers. Based on the same platform as the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport, it has a solid base and stylish looks in-keeping with its larger sibling – the F-Pace. Coming with front and all-wheel drive models, the E-Pace is likely to do well in the compact SUV sector thanks to its style and premium accessories.

F-PACE

Lauded by motoring journalists as one of the best driving SUVs around, the F-Pace was Jaguar’s first built-up model – which came with a choice of front or all-wheel drive. Available with either four-cylinder Ingenium units or V6 engines with petrol or diesel fuel options, the F-Pace is a real contender in the premium SUV segment. It maintains the handsome looks of its fellow Jaguar models, but has added a different dimension to the brand that had never built an SUV before.

F-TYPE

The spiritual successor to the E-Type, the F-Type is a modern two-seater that took over from the XK sports car. Available as either a coupe or a roadster, the F-Type also comes with an SVR version that packs a 567bhp punch thanks to a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine and all-wheel drive. It evokes the classic sports cars of Jaguar’s past but brings it firmly into the 21st Century with the angular design details and savage performance of the higher-powered models.
