CGI image reveals Volkswagen T-ROC crossover SUV

Volkswagen has released a teaser image for a new crossover SUV set to launch this summer. It will sit just below the Tiguan and shares parts with the VW Golf and Audi Q2.

A recently published CGI image has given us a look at the production version of the new T-ROC compact SUV crossover from Volkswagen, which was revealed in concept form back in 2014.

The final production model will reportedly launch during this summer. The T-ROC will sit below existing Volkswagen SUVs including the Tiguan and it will serve as a new challenger to the likes of the BMW X1 and MINI Countryman.

The new image of the car shows that the T-ROC appears more compact and boxier than a Tiguan. Size-wise, the T-ROC is similar to the Volkswagen Golf hatchback, but will offer more practicality and a raised ride height. It will share many of its components with the Audi Q2.

The engine and gearbox options though are expected to be taken from the latest Golf range. This means the T-ROC will offer the likes of a 115bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, as well as a 148bhp 1.5-litre turbo petrol. 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesels with outputs ranging from 115bhp to 148bhp are also set to feature, along with a six-speed manual gearbox and seven-speed DSG automatic.

Expect front-wheel drive to be standard on the Volkswagen T-ROC, but the higher-spec diesel models will likely offer 4MOTION four-wheel drive. Because it shares current Golf technology, a wider mixture of powertrains could be added to the T-ROC mix in the future. This is convenient for VW should they decide to create hybrid, electric or performance-focused GTI, GTD and R derivatives in the future.
