The first official image of the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport has been released, ahead of the car's full reveal in Frankfurt later this year.

Suzuki has unveiled the first official image of its new Swift Sport, which will make its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September before going on sale in 2018.

The third-generation Suzuki Swift supermini was recently launched to the UK market, and a performance-enhanced Sport version was always expected to follow at some point. The previous versions of the Swift offered Sport warm hatch models which were fun to drive, and given the improvements already made to the regular Swift, a new Sport model creates plenty of intrigue.

Speaking about the new Swift Sport, Suzuki says: “The new third-generation model has undergone a complete redesign and delivers an all-new level of excitement for sport minded drivers across the world.”

Suzuki hasn’t officially said much else about the new Swift Sport, but according to numerous online reports, the car will use a turbocharged engine for the first time. The engine expected to feature is the same 138bhp 1.4-litre Boosterjet petrol unit available for the Suzuki Vitara S.

The Boosterjet will replace the 136bhp 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine used in the previous Swift Sport.

The new Swift Sport will also likely feature a six-speed manual gearbox and a lighter kerb weight than the regular Swift supermini.
