Citroen continues its weird streak with 300bhp hybrid hatchback concept

Citroen has unveiled its new weird and wonderful CXPERIENCE CONCEPT model ahead of the Paris Motor Show.

Citroen has continued its back to bonkers approach to cars with a new hybrid hatchback concept unveiled ahead of the Paris Motor Show later this year.

Called the CXPERIENCE CONCEPT, the car features a highly distinctive body style, along with a plug-in hybrid powertrain which Citroen says could make up to 300bhp if it was brought to production.

Inspired by the world of technology, the concept features bold lines and generous curves, along with rear-hinged suicide doors and a unique pearlescent paint finish.

Distinctive styling, spacious interior

Clocking in at nearly five metres long and two metres wide, the concept sits on 22-inch wheels and features unique V-shaped daytime running lights on the front end, plus active aerodynamic flaps.

The large wheelbase accommodates a spacious interior which features a single-spoke steering wheel, a clear hat tip to Citroen’s history, plus a horizontally-oriented floating dashboard.

Although the citrus yellow shade might leave the more aesthetically-inclined balking, it does also feature unique seats which feature walnut wood backrests and a comfort-focused foam floor.

Memory foam floor for extra comfort

Speaking of comfort, Citroen says that the concept was designed especially to be cosy, with the foam interior filtering out bumps and dips in the road, for a more “living room” approach to the car.

Kit includes a huge, 19-inch touchscreen infotainment system plus high-tech cameras placed around the body which replace the wing mirrors, in addition to a unique new infotainment system.

Power comes from an 80kW electric motor twinned with a petrol engine, which Citroen says is enough to let the concept travel for 37 miles on electric power alone.

Will we see it on the roads in the near future?

Under heavier acceleration, the engine assists the motor to deliver an estimated output of up to 300bhp, with the battery pack able to be fully charged in as little as two and a half hours.

Of course, the car is still purely a concept, but given that both the C4 Cactus and the new C3 began life as similarly odd renders, don’t rule out seeing the CXPERIENCE on the roads in the near future.
