Cupra Leon: Here’s what you need to know

Cupra Leon: Here’s what you need to know

The performance hatch is packing a lot of features - so let’s take a look at what it has to offer.

Cupra is a performance brand on a mission. In recent months it has started producing its own cars from the ground-up, but even it can’t resist taking another stab at what it’s well-known for - making go-faster versions of Seat’s best cars.

That’s why we’ve got the new Cupra Leon. It’s a performance hatchback that has been given a uniquely Cupra flavour through a series of tweaks and upgrades. Let’s take a look at it.

It’s got a range of Cupra touches

Cupra has got fine form for making conventional Seat models stand out from the crowd and that’s certainly the case with the Leon. You’ve got the now ever-present Cupra badge standing loud and proud within the large front grille, while a larger front splitter and intricate alloy wheels give the car plenty of presence.

There are plenty of copper-coloured exterior elements too - another customary Cupra feature.

There are loads of engines to choose from

Though you might think that the Cupra Leon would be available with just a single high-performance engine you’d be wrong - there is quite a variety to choose from.

Not only is there a conventional 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine - available in two states of tune - but there’s also a powerful plug-in hybrid capable of delivering up to 37 miles of electric-only motoring.

You get lots of standard equipment

The Cupra Leon is a car practically brimmed full of tech but, thankfully, you don’t have to go for the top-spec model in order to get the best features. In fact, even base-spec cars boast 18-inch alloy wheels, sport bucket seats and a 10-inch infotainment system.

Oh, and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are fitted as standard too.

There’s plenty of boot space

A hot hatch has to be practical and thankfully that’s the case with the Cupra Leon. In fact, there’s 380 litres of space to play with back there and it can be extended by folding the rear seats down. If you need more space, then there’s a practical estate version available too.

Just be aware that if you opt for the plug-in hybrid version that boot space will take a hit - it’s down 110 litres on the regular car, in fact.

There are many specifications to choose from

If you are after more in the way of equipment, then there are plenty of opportunities to do so. With VZ1, VZ2 and VZ3 trim levels there really is something for everyone, with each specification bringing more features.

Head right to the top of the list and you’ll get luxuries such as a full leather interior, panoramic sunroof and heated front seats - among other features.
