Dacia dominates affordable car list for 2018

In a survey by Cap hpi, three Dacia models topped the table that found which cars were the cheapest to run per mile.

The Dacia Duster, Sandero and Logan MCV have been found to be the three most affordable cars to own, according to a survey conducted by automotive statistics company Cap hpi.

The survey takes into account the cost of buying the vehicle and the day-to-day running of it, as well as depreciation over three years and 30,000 miles, before coming up with a ‘pence per mile’ (PPM) rating.

Both the Duster SUV and Sandero hatchback scored the best PPM rating of 20.63, while the Logan MCV estate came third with a PPM of 24.03.

The Duster 1.6 SCe 115 Air 5dr and Sandero 1.0 SCe Access scored the same monthly price and total cost of ownership of £171.92 and £6,189 respectively, while the Logan MCV 1.2 Access scored £200.25 per month and £7,209 over three years.

In previous Cap hpi surveys the diesel alternatives were better rated, but due to the government’s recent road tax changes, petrol-driven models have become more affordable to own over long periods.
