DBS name to return to Aston Martin line-up

Aston Martin is bringing the DBS name back to the market in the form of the Superleggera sportscar.

Aston Martin will be reintroducing the DBS nameplate to its line-up with a new version of the super GT car.

After making its last appearance on a grand tourer that ended production back in 2012, the name will return on the DBS Superleggera, which is due to be revealed later on in 2018.

The nameplate made its first appearance back in 1967 with a straight-six engine producing 280bhp, and was then left out of the line-up from 1972.

As the final piece in Aston Martin’s plans to revamp its two-door models for its ‘Second Century Plan’, this version of the DBS will be the pinnacle of the sportscar line-up and replaces the outgoing Vanquish S.

The 2007 model was drawn up by Aston Martin’s current design chief Marek Reichman, and the English designer returns to lead the way with the new DBS.

On the new version, Reichman said: “When you hear the name DBS Superleggera, you know what it is. It’s the definitive Aston Martin Super GT.

“It’s an icon, a statement and this one will be no different. We’ve pushed the boundaries of performance and design to give this car a distinct character and ensure it is worthy of the heritage and weight that this name carries.”
