Delivery-mileage McLaren F1 to go on sale

The 90s hypercar that had been kept in perfect condition since being bought is on the market with only 148 miles on the clock

A McLaren F1 that has been kept in factory condition since its purchase in 1997 is going up for sale having covered only 148 miles.

The supercar still has all the protective wrapping and coverings on it, and has been kept in a climate-controlled building by its Japanese owner for two decades.

Having only been driven during factory testing, the Dandelion Yellow F1 has all the original pieces of equipment with it, which include gold-plated titanium tools, a special edition Tag Heuer watch and car designer Gordon Murray’s signature on the rear of the body – a rarely fitted factory option.

Fitted with an alcantara grey interior, the three-seat hypercar is seen as one of the all-time motoring greats. In 1992 it became the world’s fastest production car, setting a top speed of 243mph.

Although that record has been beaten since, the McLaren F1 is still the world’s fastest naturally-aspirated car, with the BMW-produced V12 engine producing 627bhp.

Tom Hartley Junior, who is selling the vehicle through his online dealership, told Classic Driver: “For me, a McLaren F1 is the greatest car ever built, and when you consider its rarity, with only 64 road cars produced, and the fact that the younger generations desire one of these more than, say, a Ferrari 250 GTO, then I have no doubt that they’ll overtake the GTO in value one day.

“The car will be bought by someone who wasn’t in a position to buy one when new and is now happy to pay the premium for the only ‘new’ example left, or by someone who will want to continue to preserve it ‘as delivered’ and get pleasure out of knowing they own the very best example of the greatest car ever built.”

A price hasn’t been given for this incredibly rare piece, but when they originally went on sale McLaren F1s were sold for £600,000. Expect this one to go for a considerable amount more.
