Dieselgate to get its own film, Leonardo DiCaprio attached

Paramount Pictures has already picked up a proposal for a film based on the recent Dieselgate scandal, with Leonardo DiCaprio attached to produce.

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way has picked up a book proposal by Jack Ewing that will detail the events of the multi-billion dollar scandal.

Ewing, an economics correspondent for the New York Times, has been covering the scandal since it was uncovered last month, with his forthcoming book to focus on the corporate culture that led to VW fixing its emissions results.

According to Volkswagen US CEO Michael Horn, the company had been aware of the issue as early as 2014, with the software and defeat devices dating to models as far back as 2009.

The scandal erupted last month and saw the ousting of multiple high-level Volkswagen employees, including former CEO Martin Winterkorn, and a complete restructuring of the carmarker’s brands.

No actors or directors have been attached to the film project yet, but DiCaprio, an avid environmentalist, will reportedly produce the film with his producing partner Jennifer Davisson.
