Don’t try this at home: rally driver faceplants his Skoda after jump goes wrong

Quentin Gilbert crashed out of the World Rally Championship in spectacular fashion this weekend after faceplanting his car right into the ground following a failed jump.

Any rally fan will tell you that the drivers in the World Rally Championship are the best in the world, but a big part of what makes the sport so fun is that accidents can, and do, happen.

Just ask Skoda WRC2 driver Quentin Gilbert, who spectacularly planted the front end of his Fabia into the ground following a failed jump at this month’s Rally Portugal.

Turns out making epic airtime isn’t quite as easy as your Forza games might have you believe, as by simply backing off the throttle a little too early, Quentin’s car nosedived towards the ground.

Front met floor in rather dramatic fashion, before the Fabia was sent tumbling over itself into the middle of the stage. Luckily, nobody was injured, although the car didn’t look to be in great shape.

Naturally, the spectators loved it, but we bet Quentin and his co-driver Renaud Jamoul will be feeling that one for the next couple of days, while we reckon Skoda probably weren’t so happy either.

Still, that’s rally for you. And like we said, please, please don’t try this at home…
