Driver wins £10,000 from council after pothole damages his Ferrari

A Ferrari driver is receiving £10,000 from Peterborough City Council after driving his supercar over a pothole on one of the council’s local roads, which damaged the Ferrari’s wheel and suspension.

Scott Nicholas, who lives near Stamford, drives a Ferrari 458 Spider, which ended up damaged when he hit a pothole near Ufford.

The damage was severe enough to set off the Ferrari’s passenger airbag and take the supercar off the road for three months while replacement parts were sourced from Italy.

Following the damage, Nicholas reported the incident to the local Peterborough council (which owns the road) with an insurance claim. He had to take the council to the small claims court to get the cost of repairs covered.

The court ruled in favour of Nicholas and ordered the council to pay £10,000 in compensation, making the pothole the costliest in Peterborough.

Peterborough City Council has confirmed they’ve accepted the court’s ruling and will pay the fine. Scott Nicholas says he will hand the money to a local children’s charity. The payout from Peterborough City Council massively overshadows the average cost of fixing a pothole, which is just £53.
