Drivers face £5,000 Fine & Penalty Points for splashing pedestrians with puddles

You can be fined and receive penalty points for driving through a puddle and splashing a pedestrian, here’s what you need to know and how to avoid a hefty fine.

Rain is guaranteed in the UK at some point during the year, and for drivers with a harsh side, they may have to watch out when driving past pedestrians in wet weather.

Drivers who splash pedestrians and cyclists in a malicious fashion can be fined up to £5,000 if they’re caught by police.

If you’re found to be splashing other road users on purpose, drivers can be given a public order offence under the 1988 Road Traffic Act.

Listed under section 3 of the act, it states:

 

If a person drives a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road or other public place without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road or place, he is guilty of an offence.

Although the maximum fine is £5,000, you are most likely to be given an on-the-spot fine of £100 and three penalty points.

If you refuse to pay the fine and take the issue to court, the maximum fine could be enforced.
