The PureTech 225 unit is paired to an automatic eight-speed gearbox and comes with advanced tech to improve efficiency.

DS has revealed that the 7 Crossback is getting a new petrol engine in the form of the PureTech 225, which will be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The new unit will produce 222bhp and 300Nm of torque, as well as returning a quoted economy of 48.7mpg – making it one of the best performing models in its segment, according to the French brand.

It is paired to the automatic gearbox to allow for free-wheeling at speeds between 12mph and 80mph, helping to optimise fuel consumption through an Eco mode.

The four-cylinder PureTech engine also employs equipment to help reduce pollutants and emissions. DS has added a petrol particulate filter that has a filtration effectiveness of 75 per cent, as well as using materials with greater thermal resistance and an optimised exhaust temperature management system.

The engine joins the PureTech 180 petrol unit and the two diesel offerings – the BlueHDi 130 and 180 – with DS also introducing a 4x4 hybrid petrol-electric powertrain option in 2019.

The PureTech 225 engine will be available with the Ultra Prestige, Prestige and Performance Line trims, with prices for those models starting from £34,990.
