DS reveals electric sports car concept

DS has revealed a new sports car concept and it's a fully-electric model featuring all sorts of luxury finishes.

DS has released images and details of a fully-electric sports car concept called the E-Tense, which will make its public debut at next week’s Geneva Motor Show.

The two-seater E-Tense boasts a sleek, aerodynamic body, a powerful electric motor and a luxurious interior. This concept aims to cement DS’s position as a standalone premium brand that is separate to its founders Citroen.

Supercar-like looks

The E-Tense is a coupe model that features LED daytime running lights and LED taillights. The taillights and indicators at the back are integrated into the roof, a design highlight which is said to be inspired by the original 1955 Citroen DS.

It also uses a monocoque carbon fibre chassis and front and rear double-wishbone suspension. There’s no rear windscreen, instead the car relies on digital rear-view technology.

Measuring 4.72 metres long and 1.29 metres high, the overall profile of the DS E-Tense is reminiscent of supercars like the Audi R8.

Interior and powertrain

Inside meanwhile, the E-Tense’s interior has a premium feel, thanks to use of materials like steel on the dashboard. DS upholsterers spent 800 hours designing, testing and producing the interior, with particular emphasis on the upgraded watchstrap style design on the seats and dashboard.

The centre console timepiece has been designed in a way that it can be detached and worn as a watch.

Driving the DS E-Tense is an electric motor run on lithium-ion batteries. It delivers 402bhp and 516Nm of instant torque. How fast the E-Tense is has not been revealed yet, but DS say its concept has an overall range of 193 miles, or a purely urban range of 224 miles.

Whether the DS E-Tense will ever reach production lines is unknown. But this concept does give car buyers an insight into what sort of new sporty and luxurious features the DS brand could introduce in the near future.
