Early look at the 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet

Audi has revealed pictures and details of its new A5 Cabriolet ahead of the car’s first public appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 14th November. It will go on sale in Britain in March 2017.

Sharing its styling with the new A5 Coupe, the Cabriolet gets a new roof with one-touch automatic operation. Audi says the roof can be opened in 15 seconds and closes again in 18 seconds, and it can work at speeds of up to 31mph.

A new manufacturing process is credited with giving the A5 Cabriolet a more refined cabin when the roof is up, particularly at motorway speeds.

The new A5 Cabriolet has a wheelbase that’s 14mm longer than its predecessor and the car is overall 47mm longer than before. Stretching the wheelbase means there’s more rear seat kneeroom and boot space is also improved by 60 litres to a total of 380 when the roof is closed.

Same engines as A5 Coupe

Engines for the new A5 Cabriolet are the same as its Coupe counterpart, so options include a 2.0-litre diesel with 187bhp, a 215bhp V6 diesel and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit with 248bhp.

Shortly after the A5 Cabriolet’s launch, a 187bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a V6 diesel with 282bhp will join the range.

The top of the range model is the S5 Cabriolet, which features a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 turbo petrol with 349bhp, which is 21bhp more than what the previous S5 Cabriolet offered.

Standard equipment for the new A5 Cabriolet includes an automatically opening boot lid operated with a remote button on the key fob or a button within the driver’s door. There’s also Android and iOs support for the car’s onboard interface and microphones built into the seatbelts for clearer conversations while using the Bluetooth.
