Electric Cupra Born hot hatch previewed ahead of full reveal next week

The ‘Born’ will be the performance brand’s first EV

Spanish performance car brand Cupra has previewed its new ‘Born’ EV with a showcase of some of the model’s key design details.

The Born will be Cupra’s first electric car and also the first bespoke EV to come from it and sister firm Seat, with the model now having further design details revealed in a walkaround video with Cupra’s design director Jorge Diez.

The model has been all but revealed in the video, with the design set to remain close to the original concept car, as well as keeping quite similar dimensions to Volkswagen’s ID.3, which the Born shares its MEB electric car platform with.

Set to feature Cupra’s trademark copper detailing inside and out, the Born will also get full-width LED lighting at the rear and an aggressive diffuser at the back.

But it’s not all about sporty styling, with the firm also promising a spacious interior thanks to its ‘totally occupant-centric design’. Cupra says this has been achieved with a long wheelbase and short front and rear overhangs. Named after the Born district in Barcelona, the firm also takes various elements of the design from the Spanish city, which is where the firm is based.

The Cupra Born will be unveiled on May 25, with the model joining the Ateca, Formentor and Leon in its growing sporty range.
