The CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk, has shown off a near production version of the hotly-anticipated Model 3 in a short teaser video.
On his Twitter account, Musk has posted a six second video showing a glimpse of what he describes as a “release candidate” version of the upcoming Tesla Model 3. While the video is short, it does reveal that the final production version of the Model 3 will have a very similar design to the pre-production prototype first revealed last year.

The reveal provides plenty of intrigue for the near 400,000 customers who have placed a deposit for the fully-electric, compact executive Model 3.
Musk uses Twitter frequently to discuss details of Tesla’s next car, and he has also recently revealed via this platform that the Model 3 will be rear-wheel drive only to begin with. While it’s indicated that the Model 3 will get all-wheel drive and dual-motor derivatives in the future, Musk says a simpler rear-wheel drive will be used to begin with to keep production on schedule.
The Tesla Model 3 is reportedly set to begin production this July, with first deliveries taking place either in late 2017 or early 2018.
The four-door Model 3 saloon is similar in size to cars like the BMW 3 Series and has an estimated travel range of 215 miles. The 0-62mph sprint is below six seconds in its standard specification.
