Experts warn car passengers to stop putting their feet on the Dashboard

According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, riding a car with your feet on the dashboard can cause life changing injuries, in the event of a crash.

In a Facebook post, the state county fire department stated “airbags deploy between 100 & 220mph. If you ride with your feet on the dash and you’re involved in an incident, the airbag may send your knees through your eye sockets.”

A startling image, there have been some real-life incidents that have seen passengers experience horrific, long-term injuries as a result of resting their feet on the dashboard.

A report from USA Today highlighted Audra Tatum’s case. Whilst riding with one foot on the dash, Tatum was involved in a crash which seen the airbag send her foot into her face causing horrific injuries - “The airbag went off, throwing my foot up and breaking my nose."

This isn’t the first time the county fire department have issued a warning about this, but with an inflation in airbag related injuries, it’s becoming increasingly important to remind people to bare this in mind while they’re a passenger.
