Facelifted Hyundai i10 adds new tech

Hyundai has updated its i10 with new styling touches and gadgetry so it can keep up with its biggest rivals in the city car market.

Hyundai has revealed details and images for its facelifted i10 city car, which will make its first public appearance at the 2016 Paris Motor Show at the end of September. It will then go on sale in Britain in January 2017.

These are the first major updates to be introduced to the current-generation i10 since it was first introduced back in 2013. The updates, which include styling changes and more technology for the cabin, aim to keep the Hyundai fresh next to its numerous rivals which include the Volkswagen Up, Skoda Citigo, Fiat Panda and Citroen C1.

New exterior and interior gadgetry

The biggest differences to the i10’s exterior can be found on its face as it receives a new grille which is flanked by LED daytime running lights which are small and circular. The rear bumper and side mouldings have also been redesigned and there are new 14-inch steel or alloy wheel designs, depending on trim level.

To keep the interior of the i10 up to the standards of other current city cars, Hyundai is introducing new tech features including a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This will likely only be available on higher trims and feature Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functions, plus sat-nav.

The updated i10 also adds a front collision warning and lane departure warning system to the safety gadgets list.

Same engines, better handling

Engine options for the i10 are unchanged, meaning buyers can pick a 1.0-litre or 1.25-litre petrol with outputs of 65bhp and 86bhp respectively. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard but a four-speed automatic ‘box is also available.

While power units are unchanged, Hyundai says it has improved the i10’s ride and handling thanks to modifications to the steering and by adding a larger front bump stopper.

Pricing for the updated i10 is likely to start from slightly more than the current starting figure of £7,995.
