Fan launches Tesla Model 3 configurator

Although the launch of Tesla’s new ‘affordable’ electric car, the Model 3, is still a long way away, the hype surrounding the model has been unbelievable, with around half a million pre-orders already registered.

Due to the craze surrounding the new Model 3, a configurator allowing you to spec-up your own example is an exciting concept. This configurator isn’t from Tesla though. A fan and budding owner has created their own, giving other potential buyers a forum to sharpen their tools.

The website, aptly named model3config.com, allows visitors to choose from nine different exterior paint jobs and either 20-inch silver or grey Turbine alloy wheels. Those who want to browse the car’s interior however will have to wait though.

As the Model 3’s interior has yet to be revealed, this online configurator simply leads with a “check back soon” banner, accompanied by a picture of the Millennium Falcon’s cabin from Star Wars – a reference to the fact that the Model 3’s interior will undoubtedly look futuristic.

For those who are feeling generous, you can actually donate to the site’s owner Joseph, who is calling for donations to both improve the online configurator and collate funding to go into his own Model 3 piggy bank savings.

The Model 3 is expected to launch in 2017 with a starting price of around £23,000.
