Fiat 500 adds 99g/km Eco model

Fiat has updates its 500 city car range with the launch of a new Eco specification. It is on sale now priced from £11,865.

Following on from the launch of the 1.3-litre MultiJet II turbodiesel engine earlier this month, the petrol unit in the new Eco model is not quite as efficient but still offers relatively low running costs.

Efficient new engine

The new Fiat 500 Eco uses a 1.2-litre petrol engine delivering 68bhp – a unit familiar to the Fiat 500 range. The new Eco version, however, is also equipped with a host of efficiency technologies including improved underbody aerodynamics and low rolling resistance 15-inch tyres, as well as stop-start engine technology as standard.

Compared to the Fiat 500 with a regular 1.2-litre engine, the new Eco version has reduced CO2 emissions from 110g/km to just 99g/km. This reduction means that this specification of the little Fiat is now exempt from paying for Vehicle Excise Duty.

Official combined fuel economy, meanwhile, has been improved from 60.1mpg with the standard 1.2-litre petrol engine to 65.7mpg for the new Eco model.

Trim levels for the Eco

The Fiat 500’s new 1.2-litre Eco unit is available with both the Pop Star and Lounge trim, which both follow the standard Pop trim.

This new engine can also now be picked for the latest Fiat 500 Convertible, where it starts from £14,515.
