Final LaFerrari raises £5.5m for Italian earthquake relief fund

The 500th and final LaFerrari coupe has been auctioned off to the tune of £5.5 million in aid of the victims of this year’s devastating earthquakes in central Italy.

Last week, it was announced that the car would be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s at the Finali Mondiali event at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida over the weekend.

All proceeds raised will go directly to the National Italian American Foundation’s earthquake relief fund in order to help reconstruction efforts in the areas affected by the deadly earthquakes.

Ferrari had originally vowed to build a maximum of only 499 examples of the stunning LaFerrari hybrid hypercar when the car was first unveiled.

However, boss Sergio Marchionne announced that the company would break its own rules just once to build the special 500th model specifically to aid the earthquake relief fund.

The final LaFerrari boasts a unique paint scheme with white pinstriping on the bonnet and rear windscreen to separate it from the ‘regular’ LaFerrari models.

It also boasts a small Italian flag on the bonnet to serve as a reminder of the earthquake’s victims, along with a unique commemorative plaque.

In September this year, Ferrari also officially unveiled for the first time the upcoming LaFerrari Aperta, a convertible version of the hypercar with the same 950bhp power output.

While the final LaFerrari will put the total number of coupes made at 500, only 150 LaFerrari Apertas will be built, every single one of which sold out long before it was officially unveiled.
