First Ford GT owners in Britain confirmed

The first UK customers for the new Ford GT supercar have been chosen and contacted via email. Each successful applicant could get their car before 2016 is over.

In total, 6,506 global orders were received for the new Ford GT back during the spring. Only 250 units of the GT will be made annually in the car’s first two years of production and fewer than 20 per year will reach UK customers.

Ford’s decision on which customers would receive the GT first was based on responses to a questionnaire which applicants had to fill in. Ford reportedly favoured applicants who said they would use the GT for regular driving, as opposed to simply adding it to an existing car collection.

Email praises passion of customers

Those applicants that have been successful, recently received an email from Ford which invited those customers to confirm their order. It also included the following statement: “Your passion for performance and for the Ford GT qualifies you to be among a small number of drivers selected for the opportunity to own a new Ford GT. We are thrilled to extend you this opportunity!”

Pricing for the new Ford GT is likely to start from just under £400,000 and the supercar features a twin-turbo 3.5-litre Ecoboost V6 petrol engine that produces nearly 600bhp.

When the first 500 orders of the new Ford GT are complete some time in 2018, a batch of another 500 units will be produced. Order books for this second batch of GT cars could open as early as during the first half of next year.
