First look at the all-new Kia Sportage

Kia has unveiled the first official exterior shots of its all-new Sportage SUV ahead of the model’s debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

Following on from teaser sketches released earlier in August, the photos show the new Sportage’s bold design, which Kia’s vehicle designers say is designed to create a sense of agility from all angles.

According to the manufacturer, its design has in part been inspired by the iconic look of modern fighter jets, with smooth surfacing matches with sharp and defined feature lines.

Sporting the same tiger-nose grille as the rest of Kia’s range, the headlamps are no longer integrated with the front end, instead stretching back along the outer edges for a sleeker appearance.

Flared wheel arches, a longer wheelbase and shorter rear overhangs give it a more dynamic and muscular stance, while the rear emphasises the car’s width for a more stable look.

Not much is known yet about the specs in the new Sportage, but Kia says that it’ll combine “simple, modern style with rich material quality” and the “most refined, highest-quality cabin to date”.

Engine options are likewise unknown, though more information is expected to be released upon the new Sportage’s debut at the Frankfurt show in September.
