Five standout features on the new Mazda3

The fourth-generation Mazda3 is on its way, and here’s what to look out for…

The latest Mazda3 could be the go-to choice for buyers in the family hatchback segment. With new looks, bags of tech and the later arrival of the intriguing Skyactiv-X engine, this Japanese machine has a lot to offer. Here are the features to look forward to when it arrives in the UK…

Jaw-dropping looks

Mazda’s Kodo design language has resulted in some stunning machines, and the 3 only furthers that. Taking inspiration for the Mazda Vision Concept of 2017, the hatchback boasts a sleek-yet-aggressive front design, and a gorgeous sloped rear end. Better still, Soul Red Crystal complements the elegant look perfectly to create possibly the best-looking mainstream car on the market.

Bags of tech — for no extra cost

Often manufacturers boast huge levels of technology, but don’t focus too much on how expensive equipment can drive the price of the car up. Well, Mazda isn’t a culprit on this occasion, offering an incredible amount of gear for no extra cost. Every 3 will benefit from adaptive cruise control, a head-up display and a newly-designed infotainment system displayed on an 8.8-inch display — which even supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto out of the box.

Revolutionary engines to come

At launch, the Mazda3 gets impressive 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G petrol and 1.8-litre Skyactiv-D diesel options — but the most intriguing powertrain will arrive later in the year. Skyactiv-X will be a petrol unit that Mazda promises will deliver the torque and efficiency of a diesel. Although further details are yet to be confirmed, this could be a revolution…

Mazda is the king of fun mainstream cars, and the 3 is no exception. With a playful chassis, well-judged steering and a high-revving engine, there’s bags of fun to be had behind the wheel of this hatchback.

A first-class cabin

Mazda has treated the 3 to an all-new cabin, and the result is tremendous. High-quality materials are used throughout to create a luxurious feel, while a tremendously ergonomic design means it delivers on both form and function.
