Ford Focus awarded five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP

The crash testing agency gave the family hatchback its top rating as it comes with the latest safety tech and an excellent crash structure.

The latest version of the Ford Focus has scored five stars on the Euro NCAP safety tests and is one of the first cars to be awarded the rating under new stringent guidelines.

The family hatchback scored above 70 per cent in all four categories, with its top scores in child occupant – 87 per cent – and adult occupant – 85 per cent.

Scores for the safety assist and vulnerable road user categories were 75 per cent and 72 per cent respectively.

Built around the new C2 architecture that uses a lightweight yet high strength steel, the Focus’s crash structure can take 40 per cent more load on the front and scored top marks in car-on-car impacts.

Helmut Reder, Ford Focus global vehicle line director, said: “Think back to when you took your driving test, and how hard you had to concentrate to be safe on the road. Driving hasn’t become any less demanding – we have become more accustomed to pressure.

“Technologies like Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection will reduce the demand on drivers, helping them focus their attention and be more confident at the wheel.”
